Frenbar compared with Partiful, Evite and WhatsApp
Four ways to get your people to the same dinner. Every claim about another app links to that app's own page, checked on the date above, and prices are in US dollars, as those pages give them. Where another app is the better pick, this page says so.
Side by side
| Question | Frenbar | Partiful | Evite | WhatsApp events |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Does a guest sign up to answer? | No. Someone you invited taps their own name. Someone asking to come through the ask-to-come link confirms their email address first. | Its help centre: they enter their name and phone number, then a code texted to that number. [1] Its own marketing page calls answering “no sign-up, no account”. [2] | No: the link from the host is all a guest needs. [8] | Events live in a WhatsApp chat — a group or a one-to-one chat [14] — and a WhatsApp account is activated by verifying a phone number. [17] |
| Does a guest install an app? | No. Any web browser. | No: guests can answer in a browser. [1] | No. An optional account is what lets a guest answer from the app. [8] | They need WhatsApp, where the event lives [14]: its app on Android, iPhone or desktop, or on the web. [18] |
| What does it cost? | Free. There is nothing to buy in the app. | The core product is free; Partiful earns from a fee on ticket sales and from optional purchases such as premium designs. [3] | Free designs cost nothing to send. Premium runs from $17.99 (up to 12 guests) to $99.99 (up to 750 guests) per invitation. [10] | Free to download. [20] |
| Are there ads? | No, and no analytics. | Its own page says there are no ads on your invite. [2] | On free invitations: having no ads is a Premium feature. [9] | Not in chats: ads appear only in the Updates tab. [19] |
| Where does it run? | iPhone and any web browser. The Android app is in testing and isn't on Google Play yet. | iPhone, Android and the web. [7] [2] | iPhone, Android and the web. [13] | Android, iPhone, the web and desktop. [18] |
| Can guests vote on a date? | Yes. The host offers a few dates and times, guests tick the ones they can make, and the host picks. | Yes, with Find a Time: guests vote Yes, No or Maybe, and picking a time turns the votes into RSVPs. [4] | An invitation can carry a poll: a question with answer options the host writes. [11] | A poll in the chat, with up to 12 options [16]; an event has its own date and time. [14] |
| Who sees the guest list? | Anyone holding the invitation link sees every invited name — never an email address — and can answer for any name on it. There is no switch to hide it. | Guests see who is going and who said maybe; only hosts see everyone invited and who can't go. [5] The host can switch the list and the count off. [6] | The host chooses; a private list shows names and answers to the host alone. [12] | The whole group sees who is coming. [15] |
When another app is the better pick
- You want a designed invitation. Partiful sells premium designs [3], and Evite has free and Premium designs [10]. Frenbar's invitation is a plain page.
- You're selling tickets. Partiful handles ticket sales for a fee [3]. Frenbar can't take money.
- The guest list has to stay hidden from guests. Partiful [6] and Evite [12] let the host hide it. Frenbar can't.
- Everyone is already in one WhatsApp group. A WhatsApp event stays in that chat and the whole group sees who's coming [15]; nobody opens anything new.
- Your friends want an app from Google Play today. Partiful [7] and Evite [13] have one. Frenbar's Android app is still in testing.
What Frenbar gives you
- Someone you invited answers without an account, a phone number or an app.
- Guests can vote on the date, and you pick.
- No ads, no analytics, nothing to buy.
- A separate ask-to-come link for group chats: it shows the event without the guest list, each person confirms their email address and asks, and you decide who comes.
Where Frenbar falls short
- Whoever holds an invitation link can answer for any name on it, so the link goes to each person, not to a group.
- No designs, no tickets, and no way to hide the guest list.
- It runs on the iPhone and in a browser; the Android app isn't on Google Play yet.
